Sakura!

My friend Marky just informed me that "sakura" is Japanese for cherry blossoms.

A few weeks ago I woke up feeling restless. So I did what felt most natural - I grabbed my camera and went for a walk. It was one of those beautiful New York spring days where the weather is just so perfect you feel guilty not being outside. I left my apartment and walked South. I had it in my head that I wanted to photograph something beautiful... but I just couldn't find the right thing. I was well below Houston and decided to walk West a bit. Next thing I knew I was above Union Square and walking East. Crap! I was almost home and still hadn't really taken pictures of anything I loved...

I found myself on one of those beautiful tree-lined streets in Grammercy. Not only that, but it was during that wondeful (yet short-lived) time of year when the cherry blossoms were in bloom. Sakura! They were just so beautiful in their simplicity that I began to shoot before I had even realized I had taken off my lens cap and turned on my camera. I shot and shot until I was satisfied. Time stood still. Suddenly, the feeling of restlessness was gone. I got sucked into the moment and felt a sense of calm.

I went right home to upload them to my computer and choose my favorites. Later that night my roomie and I had sushi... with sake, not sakura! ;)
